  • Joel Makower, Chairman and Executive Editor

    Joel is a well-respected voice on business, the environment, and the bottom line. As a writer and strategist on corporate sustainability practices and clean technology, he has helped a wide range of companies align environmental goals with business strategy. He is author of several books on business and sustainability, including Strategies for the Green Economy; is a frequent commentator in print, broadcast, and online media; and a sought-after speaker to companies and business groups. He also is a co-founder of Clean Edge, a research firm focusing on clean technologies, and serves as a senior strategist to GreenOrder, a sustainability strategy firm. From 1991 to 2005, Joel was editor of The Green Business Letter, an award-winning monthly newsletter on corporate environmental strategy. Joel is a graduate in journalism from the University of California at Berkeley and is an advisor to several start-ups and board member of several nonprofit organizations, including The Biomimicry Institute, Climate Counts, and United Roots.   • Matthew Wheeland, Senior Writer

    Matt has a background in environmental journalism and new media, and is a graduate of U.C. Santa Cruz and the U.C. Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. He previously worked at AlterNet and Greater Good magazine and his writings on the environment, politics, culture and business have appeared in a wide range of print and online publications.   • Marc Gunther, Senior Writer

    Marc is a veteran journalist whose focus is business and sustainability, most recently as Senior Writer for Fortune magazine, where he spent 13 years. At Fortune, he wrote cover stories about the greening of Wal-Mart; about BYD, the Chinese electric car company backed by Warren Buffett; about Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and the 2008 financial crisis; and about spirituality in the workplace. Previously, worked for more than 20 years for newspapers including the Paterson (N.J.) News, Hartford Courant, Detroit News, and Detroit Free Press. He is author of four books, including "Faith and Fortune: How Compassionate Capitalism is Transforming American Business" (Crown 2004) and is creator and co-chair of Brainstorm Green, Fortune's annual conference on business and the environment.   • Adam Aston, Senior Writer

    Adam Aston is a Senior Writer for GreenBiz.com and a veteran freelance writer, editor and analyst specializing in energy, environment, science and technology. He focuses on renewable and conventional energy technologies, efficiency, transportation, building and design, green finance, and corporate sustainability. In addition to his work with GreenBiz, he contributes regularly to Natural Resources Defense Council’sOnEarth, The Fiscal Times, and his work has appeared in MIT’s Technology Review, environment:YALE, Global CCS Institute,GardenDesign and Momentum. Aston has also worked at BusinessWeek, as the magazine’s energy and environment editor in New York, and at the Economist Intelligence Unit, where he covered Asian business, economic, and political developments from Hong Kong.     Jennifer Kho is a freelance reporter and editor who is passionate about digging beneath the surface to find important and insightful stories and about using all the storytelling tools available today to bring it to life for her readers.   • Derek Top, Senior Editor and Program Director, VERGE

    For more than a dozen years, Derek has been covering technology trends and producing top-notch, business events. Most recently, he was community manager with Agrion, a global network for cleantech professionals, helping connect entrepreneurs, investors and service providers through webcasts and onsite conferences. Previously, Derek was research director for Opus Research, producing in-depth reports and managing a network of blogs on mobile and voice communications.   • Leslie Guevarra, Editor

    Leslie joins GreenBiz Group with more than 20 years of news experience, including work at the San Francisco Chronicle, where she served as a deputy managing editor. She has been a reporter and editor in print, an associate producer and on-air public affairs program host, and a podcaster.   • Rob Watson, Executive Editor GreenerBuildings.com

    Watson also serves as the chairman, CEO & Chief Scientist of the EcoTech International Group, which helps clients around the world achieve cost-effective high performance green buildings. Under Rob's direction as the "Founding Father of LEED" and as its national Steering Committee Chairman between 1994 and 2005, the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED rating system became the most widespread and fastest-growing standard by which green buildings are measured worldwide. A pioneer of the modern green building movement for over twenty years, in 2007 Rob Watson founded the EcoTech International Group to meet the fast-growing demand for green building technologies and services in China, India and the U.S. Link to Rob's stories.

  • Pete May, President and Co-Founder

     

    Pete co-founded GreenBiz Group in  2006 along with Joel Makower.  Prior to that he had over 20 years experience in B2B and technology media as an executive with companies such as Primedia, CMP and Miller Freeman.  Pete was honored with the 2010 Folio 40 Award - C Level Visionaries Award. This award recognizes media industry influencers and innovators.

  • Eric Faurot, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Strategist

    Eric is 20-year media executive with a proven leadership record of building and growing great teams and brands. Eric has been an executive at CMP, MediaLive, and Miller Freeman. Most recently he grew the event division of TechWeb/UBM from $38 million to $63 million in three years. At TechWeb he was responsible for some of the most respected global event brands in technology including, Web 2.0, Black Hat, and Interop.

    Eric’s varied background also includes helping return a bankrupt company to profitability and successfully selling to United Business Media, creating an objective data model that accurately codified all genres of music, and co-founding a landscape design firm.

  • Hugh Byrne, Senior Vice President Product Development and Marketing

    Hugh brings 20 years of diverse experience in the publishing and technology industries to GreenBiz Group. He has held senior sales and marketing roles with Oracle Corporation, Times Mirror (now Tribune), and Primedia Business, where he served as general manager for two of the company's most profitable business units. Hugh has an extensive background in business-to-business information products and database marketing, and has consulted for numerous e-Commerce ventures in the areas of strategic development, market research, direct marketing, and new product development.

  • Alan Robinson, Vice President Sales and Business Development

    Alan is a 20-year industry veteran in B2B media advertising and management. Alan spent the past six years at Reed Business Information, where he served as group publisher for EDN Worldwide. Prior to joining Reed Business Information, he was director of online advertising for PartMiner, Inc. Previously, Alan was the director of international publishing and director of international sales for CMP/United Business Media, director of international sales and marketing for Miller Freeman Publishing, and regional sales manager for M&T International Marketing. Alan is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and has an MBA from San Francisco State University.

  • John Davies, Vice-President GreenBiz Intelligence division

    John heads up research efforts for GreenBiz Group and leads the GreenBiz Executive Network, a member-based, peer-to-peer learning forum for sustainability professionals. The network is made up of senior executives from $1B+ corporations working together to share best practices and lessons learned for implementing sustainable development programs. John is an experienced entrepreneur and innovator who has applied his business and management skills to launching start-ups as well as improving the operations of existing businesses. John is a frequent keynote speaker at international events, is well-known for his supply chain and sustainability expertise and is the author of numerous articles in business, industry, and educational publications. John received his BA from SUNY at Fredonia and his MA from the University of Delaware.

  • Krys Freeman, Web Project Manager

    Krys joins GreenBiz Group with a rich background in strategic web development. She also brings several years of experience and a strong personal interest in leveraging the power of social media to advance progressive social issues. To that end she has held roles with the BUTCHVoices Conference, BikingforObama.com, GLAAD, and social justice project, New Orleans: A Labor of Love. In 2007, Krys earned a B.A. in Urban & Environmental Policy, with a minor in Critical Theory & Social Justice from Occidental College. She is also a part time blogger whose writing has appeared in online publications for AOL.com, Wiretap Magazine, Sustainable Life Media and Oakland Local.

  • Sam Smith, Marketing Manager

    Sam is a writer, designer, producer, market strategist, entrepreneur, inventor, and technology buff. He has expertise in a wide range of areas including market research, consumer behavior, video & film production, photography, graphic design, web development & strategy. In the past he been a writer and producer for independent television, a technology consultant for education, and developed innovative distribution models for entertainment. In his free time, Sam writes, works on various inventions and green technology endeavors. Sam holds a B.S. in Market Research & Business Administration and an M.S. in Consumer Behavior & Market Strategy from Colorado University.

  • Ellie Buechner, Events Manager

    Ellie manages the coordination and program development of GreenBiz events, including the GreenBiz Forum, the Innovation Forum, and VERGE. She is dedicated to bringing together top thought leaders and professionals to share trends, technologies, and leadership practices in sustainability, and leverage this knowledge to generate real value for their companies. Beyond her work with GreenBiz, her environmental background includes teaching environmental education curriculums in Malawi and Nicaragua, tagging sea turtles in the Bahamas, and using social media to promote sustainability locally and internationally. She holds a BA in International Studies from Middlebury College.

  • Katherine Eastman, Advertising Operations Manager

    Katherine manages all advertising accounts and organizes GreenBiz Group events. She has a marketing degree from the University of Florida and a background in graphic design, theatre, and landscape architecture.

  • Jenna Stern, Administrative Assistant

    Jenna joined GreenBiz to help with marketing and partnerships for the 2011 State of Green Business Forum and has since taken over the Administrative Assistant role. She studied Environmental Studies and Economics at Pitzer College. Aside from her academic interest in the environment, she has worked on several sustainable farms, and interned at the US Green Building Council and Net Impact.

  • Jessika Aldridge, Associate Community Manager

    Jessika manages media partnerships and audience development for GreenBiz Group. She holds a BFA, with a concentration in Production & Stage Management, from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa. Originally from North Carolina, her Southern accent makes itself known every once in a while. Feel free to call her about a partnership, she'll be glad to do an impression for you.
